What needed attention
The existing Rheem water heater in the garage was leaking. We instructed the customer to shut off the water supply while it was leaking. The job called for a new 50-gallon natural-gas unit.
What our plumbers did
The plumbers at The Honest Plumber of Milpitas removed and disposed of the old heater, then installed a 50-gallon A. O. Smith natural-gas water heater. The installation included new hot- and cold-water flex connectors, a flue exhaust connection, a gas sediment trap at the control valve, seismic restraint straps, a gas flex connector, and a new soldered ball valve on the water-heater inlet with two male adapters for the water connections.
Result and next steps
After restoring the water supply and activating the heater, our plumbers inspected and tested the installation. No leaks were observed, and the water heater was functioning properly at completion.
What to ask about a similar job
We generally recommend A. O. Smith or Bradford White for a replacement unless the customer prefers another brand. When comparing quotes, ask what is included beyond the tank: removal of the old heater, water and gas connections, the vent connection, shutoff valve, seismic restraints, and startup testing. The parts needed will depend on the existing installation.
